From HempWood to Beyond: The Impact of KCV INVENT

For Murray State University marketing student Courtney Peoples, an internship at HempWood® became more than an opportunity to gain experience. It became the start of her career.

Through Kentucky Commercialization Ventures' (KCV) INVENT program, Courtney joined the team at HempWood, a Kentucky startup transforming industrial hemp into a wood alternative using hemp stalks and soy-based glue. There, she put her marketing skills to work in a real-world setting while supporting a growing startup. The experience proved valuable on both sides: Courtney received an offer for a full-time position upon graduation, and HempWood is already looking forward to welcoming more INVENT interns.

Hear from Courtney, HempWood Founder and CEO Greg Wilson and Murray State University's KCV Champion Chris Woolridge as they share how INVENT is helping connect emerging talent with Kentucky startups and creating opportunities that extend well beyond the internship.

"We look forward to having another intern next year. Or two if you've got them!"                                        - Greg Wilson, Founder and CEO, HempWood

Could INVENT Be the Next Opportunity for You or Your Startup?

Through KCV INVENT, participants gain hands-on startup experience while Kentucky startups gain access to vetted, trained talent ready to contribute. Intern candidates complete up to seven weeks of commercialization and startup training before being matched with a startup, and internships are paid through the program for up to 18 months.

Whether you're looking to build your career or grow your startup, INVENT can help make that connection possible.
